Talented students in Boise State’s master of fine arts program in creative writing find themselves working closely with some of America’s top writers. Anthony Doerr, who earned a 2015 Pulitzer Prize for his novel “All the Light We Cannot See,” has taught in the program along with other award-winning authors, and this fall acclaimed fiction writer Denis Johnson is the program’s first visiting distinguished professor.
Johnson is teaching the MFA fiction workshop that is the core course in the program. He also will read from his work at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 in the Student Union Simplot Ballroom as part of the MFA Reading Series. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP on FACEBOOK. Among other
program events, the series brings some of the most respected fiction writers and poets to campus for public readings each semester and connects Boise State with the larger literary community.
Johnson is the author of nine novels, three collections of poetry and one book of reportage. He has taught at the Iowa Writers Workshop and at the James Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin, both top-ranked MFA programs.
