GOP “Scamdal”-mongering Just Reminds People Why They Hate Republicans

EXCERPT:

Every once in a while, Republicans forget the first rule of being a parasite: Hide.  For a while, they prospered in the relative obscurity of doing nothing, contributing nothing, and obstructing all attempts by the Obama administration to do Something, at the behest of their ultra-wealthy masters who don’t need and don’t want American government to work (or even really exist).  Like barnacles on the Ship of State, they were known in the general public largely by the constant drag on progress they exerted, which had the ironic – and for them, desirable – effect of being blamed on the guy at the wheel.

For most people, the Republican Party’s brazen corruption, hypocrisy, and treasonous lust to punish the nation for voting against them was an unseen irritant that only served to increase their annoyance with the President for not acting as though the difference in visibility were a difference in power.  And then Republicans went ahead and reminded everyone that, yes, they are The Problem, and have been The Problem all along.  At a time of economic hardship created by them and exacerbated by their refusal to pass any form of economic stimulus in years, they’ve opened the taxpayer spigot to fish for scandals to benefit themselves, and are publicly making a spectacle of the fact that they consider the US government their private property.   Thanks for the reality check …

Quit using my tax dollars to sell me K-12

Excerpts from a facebook “notes” page:

Friends and fellow Idahoans, I am fired up. I just wrote a reply in response to a Daily Kos diary posted by another Idaho writer. I want to share it here … and everywhere, in hopes that someone takes notice in the last 10 days before Election Day. I’ve added a bit more material …

Here’s the real story in the SSPI race, though: K12, the Virginia-based company that runs the Idaho Virtual Academy, dumped $25K into Tom Luna’s campaign a few days ago. (Along with Melaleuca, K12 was also Luna’s biggest benefactor in 2006.) Other than a post by Betsy Russell on EOB on Wednesday, it’s going nowhere with the media.

Here’s the link: http://www.spokesman.com/blogs/boise/2010/oct/20/-profit-ed-firm-k-12-inc-mounts-independent-campaign-backing-luna

… Yet here’s what really offends me: Every time I turn around, I see ads, billboards, direct mail, etc. from K12 – paid for with OUR tax dollars – pushing me to consider an online school for my kid. And guess who had the top banner ad when I hit the Kos home page a few minutes ago? “Classrooms are not for everyone,” the K12 ad says. “Your teen has a better option.” (I want to say, “Oh yeah? My kid attends the top academic high school in the state, you nimrods, so leave us the hell alone.”)

Green Diaries: Meteor Blades to the Rescue

Daily Kos is such a popular forum that it has been called “an internet within the internet.”

But such massive use brings downsides.

Sometimes, a blogger is lucky if a newly written diary stays on the screen for even a few minutes, due to the sheer volume of participation.

So the blogs’ founder Markos Moulitsas wisely instituted a diary rescue feature. Through this method, select entries of importance can get another run on the big screen.

That’s why all of us here at 123idaho were delighted during a recent search to find that at least a couple of our diaries regarding the Gem State were picked up by Daily Kos in-house writer Meteor Blades in his Green Diary Rescue thread.

A lot of important things happen in Idaho. And it is always good when our state receives international attention for issues other than the ones that keep late-night comedians in business.

From a Daily Kos Green Diary Rescue last summer:

123idaho wondered if we are making the best decisions for Idaho’s families and natural legacy?: “Whether your summertime rituals involve an annual hike up a favorite trail or Sunday evenings at the old fishing hole, the great outdoors are one big reason most of us choose to live in Idaho. From our pristine lakes and rivers to abundant, accessible public land to clear blue skies, we are blessed with scenic and recreational riches. We also know that these gifts were given to us to use wisely, and that we are called to be stewards of the air, land and water that both feed our souls and help us keep food on our tables. Just as we all shoulder a great deal of individual responsibility for our actions, as lawmakers, we know that decisions made in the Idaho Legislature can affect our environment. Are we making the best decisions?”

From a Daily Kos Green Diary Rescue last fall:

123idaho had some praise for somebody who usually doesn’t get much from progressives in Simpson Supports Clean Transportation Energy Alternatives: “With such a dismal record on enviromental issues following the Republican party, it is interesting to see a conservative working in this fashion: Idaho Republican Congressman Mike Simpson is a cosponsor of H.R. 1835, the New Alterative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions, or NAT GAS, Act of 2009. H.R. 1835 focuses on increasing the availability of natural gas-fueled vehicles in the United States.”

Hostility to minorities is held by the far right majority of the Republican Party

No matter the group, one can almost feel the seething disgust the GOP has for people they don’t like.

Simply put, there is one party that welcomes people of all colors and faiths, and there is one that does not.

Harry Reid really touched a nerve when he said: “I don’t know how anyone of Latino heritage could be a Republican, OK?” … “Do I need to say more?”

Out of necessity, 1st Congressional District Republican candidate Raul Labrador, who was born in Puerto Rico, weighed in:

“Harry Reid’s latest race-baited words are simply unacceptable to all members of the Hispanic community and I fully expect his party and Walt Minnick to condemn these terrible comments immediately.” he said

Calling Reid’s comments “ill-tempered,” and “ignorant,” Labrador, issued the following statement:

I cannot believe an elected leader of Harry Reid’s stature can continue to make racist comments about huge numbers of Americans. Harry Reid’s latest race-baited comments are simply unacceptable to all members of the Hispanic community. Denigrating the entire Republican Hispanic community, including myself, is simply outrageous. Contrary to Senator Reid’s beliefs, the Latino community is perfectly capable of making choices of political affiliation that are in its best interests, including being Republicans.

“Statements such as these prove the message of the Democrat Party as one of inclusiveness and tolerance is nothing more than cynical political posturing,” Labrador added. “I expect the Democrat (sic) Party that continues to keep Reid in a position of Leadership to denounce his statements and I fully expect my opponent Walt Minnick to condemn these terrible comments immediately.”

On Daily Kos, Brooklynbadboy felt differently:

This blunt language encapsulated the basic argument the entire Democratic Party has to make to Latino people: hostility to minorities is held by the far right majority of the Republican Party. No matter the group, one can almost feel the seething disgust the GOP has for people they don’t like. This is obvious to people who can see it and are honest about it, including plenty of people in the Republican Party who are genuinely disgusted by racism. But those folks are increasingly being forced out of the party as it turns its moral center away from big business and Christian evangelicals in favor of white supremacists and extremists.

He continued:

Harry Reid may have been speaking something that usually lingers just below the surface of political debate in this country. Simply put, there is one party that welcomes people of all colors and faiths, and there is one that does not. Therefore, it is a rather curious thing to find people of color becoming leaders of a party that is openly hostile to people of color. Despite the hostility, the GOP does produce them. Michael Steele, Bobby Jindal and Marco Rubio come to mind. There is a strand of the GOP that puts ideology before all, even if the results of that ideology have negative effects on minorities. Still, it isn’t difficult to join Harry Reid in asking why anyone of color would want to join the Republican Party.

The majority of the GOP is openly hostile to Latinos. The Arizona racial profiling law they passed is good proof. The reason for this hostility has many different causes. But regardless of motive, it is clear that when Republicans talk about border fences, troops on the border, crime on the border, securing the border, you name it on the border…they mean Latinos.

President Obama has failed

by Mark Warner is God

It’s clear to me that after 6 months in office, President Obama has failed. There are a number of issues where I didn’t get what I wanted from him immediately, or he compromised, and that’s unacceptable. Where is the change we were promised?

I thought things would change for the common man. I was wrong. None of the legislation that has passed in the last 6 months has helped anyone. Barack Obama is just as bad as George W. Bush. He’s worse, actually, because at least Andy Card didn’t hurt my feelings and say something mean about progressive activist groups.
